Microsoft delayed the manufacturing process of the latest Xbox consoles in order to implement specific AMD tech. While the Xbox Series X boasts better specifications as compared to the PlayStation 5, both Sony and Microsoft have incorporated Zen 2 and RDNA 2 technology in their consoles.
On paper, the Xbox Series X has an upper hand in terms of CPU and GPU horsepower, however, initial benchmarks reveal quite interesting figures. There isn’t much of a performance difference between the consoles in real-world scenarios, while at the same point the PlayStation 5 boasts way faster loading times, thanks to the superior SSD.
Microsoft did take a few bold decisions in order to ensure that the Xbox Series X has better specifications. Speaking to The Verge, Head of Xbox Phil Spencer mentions that they delayed the manufacturing of the latest console because they were “waiting for some specific AMD technology” in their chip.
This could’ve backfired since Sony had already started the manufacturing process and that essentially puts them behind their competitors. Thankfully, Xbox managed to get the console ready at the same time as the PlayStation 5 despite the initial time lag.
Phil also mentions that while the Xbox Series X has dominated most of the sales for them as of now, in the longer run, the Xbox Series S can surpass the Series X. To no surprise, Phil states that the price point of the Series S is the prime reason for that. For now, gamers are struggling to get their hands on either of the two consoles due to the high demand.
