Pokemon Sword and Shield will have 18 Gyms and a Major and Minor LeagueAdelaide WeissTue, 10/01/2019 - 15:02

The newest Pokémon games will have 18 different gyms spread over a significant and minor league.

The Pokémon channels are buzzing with excitement. The latest Game Informer covered larger updates and changes to the game. From EXP Share, HMs, and optional autosaving, Pokémon Sword and Shield are set to make a big impact on the franchise.

Revealed in a Tweet by Serebii.net, Pokémon Sword and Shield will have 18 different Pokémon gyms, spread over two different leagues, major and minor.

Until recently, Pokémon games focused on collecting eight badges from eight different gyms. In the previous games, Pokémon Sun and Moon, there was a minor change to the gym arrangement. Instead, trainers underwent the Island Challenge where Trial Captains would test their strength. The Trails involved the Totem Pokémon of the area, either in battle or some other format. After the initial test, players had to defeat the Island Kahuna in battle. This fight was roughly the same as facing a Gym Leader.

Pokémon Sun and Moon were the first to deviate from the standard eight gym format. Now Pokémon Sword and Shield are glad to overshadow their predecessors. There are still gyms, 18 of them. The gyms will get split between the minor and the major Pokémon Leagues. How they will get divided up is unknown. The new system is already promising, with the potential for longer, more in-depth gameplay and different strategies.

In a way, this mirrors Pokémon Crystal, Silver, and Gold and their remakes, Soul Silver and Heart Gold. The two regions, Kanto and Johto, were under the same Pokémon League, and after defeating the champion, players could travel to Kanto to face off against the eight Gym Leaders there. It made the game longer, if repetitive, but enjoyable. Perhaps the popularity of this system is why Pokémon Sword and Shield will have two leagues and over twice the number of Gym Leaders.

Xbox Game Pass Getting World War Z, Panzer Dragoon Orta and More This MonthRobert WorkmanTue, 10/01/2019 - 15:06

Microsoft continues to pack its Xbox Game Pass on-demand program with extraordinary titles – and October is no exception.

It all starts later this week, on Oct. 3, with the debut of Dishonored 2 coming to the service. This well-received sequel from Arkane Studios and Bethesda is sure to hit the spot for those who love adventure games, with some gadgets and skills available.

But a big, recent title drops on Oct. 10 when Saber Interactive’s World War Z joins the party. The title loosely takes notes from the lore of the film, and the game features co-op interactivity as you mow down armies of zombies using a variety of weapons. Considering there’s not a current-gen version of Left 4 Dead on the market, this is a good alternative.

Speaking of Bethesda, Fallout: New Vegas will also make its debut sometime in October. An exact date did not come with it, but mid-month is more than likely. This classic favorite is sure to be worth the revisit, as it’s part of the Xbox backward compatibility program.

Also on the list is Panzer Dragoon Orta, an Xbox classic that became available on the backward compatible program a while back. This old-school favorite is easily one of the best games in the series, and adding it to Game Pass will rekindle interest in the franchise. Ideal considering that Panzer Dragoon is making a hi-def comeback.

Then there’s Yooka-Laylee. This platformer will debut on the service sometime in October as well, hot on the heels of next week’s sequel, Yooka-Laylee, and the Impossible Lair. Players are sure to get a kick out of this one, filled with retro-themed 3D platforming.

And finally, Felix the Reaper will debut on Xbox Game Pass day and date with its street release. It’s a wacky game that has players dancing their way through puzzles in the role of Death.

Xbox Game Pass currently has a promotion going as well, where fans can sign up for the first month for $1 and get six free months of Spotify Premium. It’s a win-win. You can find out more about that deal here.

Destiny 2 - What To Do With Helium Filaments - How To Play The Tire Game

Destiny 2 Shadowkeep is here, and if you go to the moon, there's a machine that wants Helium Filaments on a platform close to Eris Morn. But what does it do? And how do you get Helium Filaments?

What To Do With Helium Filaments - How To Play The Tire Game

Destiny 2 Tire Game Helium Filaments

First of all, you can fill up on Helium Filaments by opening chests. You need to find the filaments on the surface of the moon like any other planetary material. If you collect five of them, you will be able to activate the machine near Eris Morn.

Doing so will cause a tire to roll out of the machine, which can be a little confusing at first. If you follow the yellow and black pipes, they lead down and away from the machine. You will notice that they end in a ramp and there are multiple craters in the ground in front of them.

You can, with skill, push the tire and send it flying down the ramp at speed, hurtling into the air, and potentially landing in one of the holes. So far, I have only managed to get an "average score" in the Tire Game, but I am sure it won't be long until someone out there does better.

You get three tires to try, and if you land them all in the central crater, I assume you get some form of bragging rights over Eris Morn, who is probably terrible at the game.

Now, I am sure there are other uses for Helium Filaments beyond just sending tires down the ramp. So don't use them all on the game until further secrets of Shadowkeep get revealed.

Destiny 2 - Pain and Gain Exotic Quest Guide

When you first fire up Destiny 2 after the launch of Shadowkeep, you can visit Banshee-44 at the tower to get a new Exotic quest called Pain and Gain. Interact with him, and he will give you the quest.

Destiny 2 - Pain and Gain Exotic Quest Guide

Joy In Suffering

Joy In Suffering

The first step of the quest is called Joy In Suffering, and it consists of three different goals.

  • Complete a Lost Sector in the EDZ
  • Heroic public event completed
  • Nightfall strike completed

You can complete any Lost Sector you like, as long as it is in the EDZ. You can also complete any Heroic Public Event, which is nice as they are plentiful around the EDZ as well. The Nightfall is the hard part of this quest, as it is the peak weekly activity in the game outside of Raids. To do the Nightfall, team up with some friends and select it from the Vanguard Strikes playlist. For solo players, you will need to group up with others to get that part done, especially if you are new to the game.

After all those steps are complete, the next part of the quest opens up.

Risk/Reward

Once you finish the previous three steps, a new mission appears in the EDZ called Risk/Reward. As part of the mission, you need to take out three Dusk Captains. After they're gone you can to take out a Walker.

You need to start by taking out the regular enemies, and doing so until a Dusk Captain spawns. Take him out, and then repeat the process. These captains do not appear until you have killed enough regular enemies. When the three of them are dead, take out the Walker to complete the mission.

When you finish, return to Banshee-44 at the Tower to receive your new Exotic weapon!

Pokémon GO Will Have "Spooky" Legendary Raid Hours in October

Pokémon GO Will Have "Spooky" Legendary Raid Hours in OctoberDylan SieglerTue, 10/01/2019 - 16:51

October is here, which means it's time to get spooky. Pokémon GO is celebrating the spookiest month of the year with Legendary Raid Hours featuring "spooky" Legendary Pokémon.

For one hour every Wednesday evening this month, a specific Legendary Pokémon will appear as a Raid Boss more frequently. This spawn timer makes it easier to not only find some of these Legendary Pokémon in the first place but catch multiples of them to stock up on Candy. For October, Pokémon GO has chosen some especially spooky Legendary Pokémon to get featured during these Legendary Raid Hours.

From 6:00 P.M. through 7:00pm on Oct. 2, 9, and 16, Altered Forme Giratina will be the featured Legendary Raid Boss. Giratina is one of very few Ghost-type Legendary Pokémon, making it a perfect fit for October's Legendary Raid Hours. Be wary of its dual Ghost/Dragon-typing, though. Altered Forme Giratina also has higher defensive stats and lower offensive stats than Origin Forme Giratina, so keep that in mind when taking it on in a Raid Battle.

From 6:00 P.M. through 7:00pm on Oct. 23 and 30, five-star Raid Battles will feature a spooky Legendary Pokémon. They have yet to announce what Legendary Pokemon will show. It seems likely that it will be Darkrai since being the only Dark-type Legendary Pokémon lets it fit the "spooky" bill. Darkrai is also Giratina's counterpart in being a Legendary Pokémon from Generation IV. However, Darkrai is technically a Mythical Pokémon, not a Legendary Pokémon so that it may be saved for Special Research instead. But since Deoxys is also technically a Mythical Pokémon that has appeared as a Raid Boss, it seems likely that Darkrai could too. We'll have to wait and see.

Destiny 2 Weasel Error - What Does It Mean?

Destiny 2: New Light, Shadowkeep, and the game moving to Steam have all happened on the same day. As you might expect, there are more than a few error codes doing the rounds, and affecting different players. In this guide, we will talk about the Weasel error.

Destiny 2 Guitar Error - What Does It Mean?

According to the Bungie website, here's the information about the cause of the Weasel error. They do have a note at the start to say that Cross-Save can cause Weasel errors if you try to sign on to two platforms at once.

Cross-Save: Players who attempt to log in to multiple platforms simultaneously while Cross-Save is enabled on their account will receive a WEASEL error on whichever platform they logged in on first.

WEASEL is a split-off error that was previously grouped under CENTIPEDE. This split helps expedite investigations and fixes and will be easier to understand the specific issue the player is experiencing.

Before proceeding any further, we strongly recommend switching from WiFi to a wired connection, at least temporarily. This is an important first troubleshooting step to rule out WiFi signal strength/stability as a possible culprit.

If you are repeatedly experiencing this error code, please follow our Network Troubleshooting Guide.

If you've experienced this error code and you can no longer launch Destiny, please power cycle your console.

  • This can be done by holding the "Power" button for 5 to 10 seconds, until the console resets.

I have gotten the Weasel error twice, which kicked me out of the game, but I was able to log in again both times. Unfortunately, after sitting through a queue of course. If you are getting hit with a lot of Weasel errors, run through the above steps recommended by Bungie to see if it gets resolved. At this time, the only thing you can do is have some patience and wait for the launch day issues to resolve.

Destiny 2 Chicken Error - What Does It Mean?

Destiny 2: Night Light, the latest expansion Shadowkeep, and the integration to Steam all happened on the same day. You can imagine there's going to be some massive errors with all of these big tech-based things happening on the same day. Bungie has their hands full. Unfortunately, this means players are going to deal with error codes. Here's where we discuss what's going on when you get the Chicken error.

Destiny 2 Chicken Error - What Does it Mean?

According to Bungie's official website, this issue is likely going to happen regarding connection issues to Destiny 2. When you experience this error, here is what Bungie recommends players should do to help resolve the issue:

  1. A wired connection is recommended to play Destiny. If the connection is being used for other things when playing Destiny, such as streaming, it's recommended to quit those programs.
  2. Clear the Console Cache or clear the download cache in the Steam launcher.
  3. Power cycling the main router/modem.
  4. Review our guide on improving latency and packet loss.
  5. Follow our Networking Troubleshooting Guide for best optimizing the connection to Destiny, and our Advanced Steps Networking Guide for possible router solutions, including information on UPnP, NAT, and Port Forwarding.
  6. This may be an internet service provider issue, so players may need to contact their provider about possible service interruptions.
  7. If players still encounter this issue after following the previous steps, please create a thread in our #Help Forum

If you attempt to follow these steps and still have the issue, make sure to visit the Bungie Help forum to post about it. You're likely going to find some similar posts regarding the problem. You may want to add your voice to the threat rather than making a brand new one. It's better to share a similar issue with someone than make more and more threads, potentially pushing away a larger one into the depths of the Destiny 2 forums.

Related: Destiny 2 Weasel Error - What Does it Mean?

The Chicken issue did happen to me, and I had to shut off background programs before playing the game. It's better to run nothing but Destiny 2 right now if you're interested in getting into the game and lining up through the queue.

Players can expect these errors to persist over the next few days to the influx of people attempting to get into the game and the new system. Steam is likely on fire right now, alongside Bungie.

Destiny 2 - How To Get Upgrade Modules

Destiny 2 - How To Get Upgrade Modules

A change coming to Destiny 2 today is Upgrade Modules. These new resources are used to infuse weapons. You can take a weapon with high power you don't want and infuse it into a lower power weapon that you like. This enhancement boosts the lowered power weapon and makes it more useful to you because it will hit harder. But how do you get Upgrade Modules?

Destiny 2 - How To Get Upgrade Modules

There are three ways to get your hands on Upgrade Modules.

  • The Weekly Gunsmith Bounty - grab a bounty from the Gunsmith and complete it to get an Upgrade Module.
  • Season of the Undying Rewards - you can pick some up as Rank Rewards from the Season Pass.
  • Purchase them from the Gunsmith.

Purchasing them from the Gunsmith is pretty expensive. They will cost 5000 Glimmer, 25 materials, one enhancement core, and 10 Legendary Shards. You can also hold a maximum of 25 Upgrade Modules at one time, so make sure you keep an eye on how many of them you have in your inventory.

These will become a prevalent item you use in Destiny 2. You will no doubt fall in love with some weapons and want to infuse them a lot. My advice would be not to do that, and use it on weapons coming your way while you work your way up to through Power levels.

Then, as you run into something that a particular weapon you have will excel at, you can be sure you will be able to infuse it when you need it. This new system will likely become more critical as you try to complete Nightfalls and the upcoming Raid.

That should cover just about everything you need to know about Upgrade Modules in Destiny 2, so best of luck, Guardian.

Destiny 2 Olive Error - What Does it Mean?

Destiny 2: New Light, the game's latest expansion Shadowkeep, and the integration over to Steam is all happening today. That's right, Bungie has its hands full attempting to balance these new launches. Plenty is going on, and because the game is moving from Blizzard's Battle.net launcher to Steam, you can imagine there are plenty of problems going on right now. We're gathering up what we can. This guide is going to cover the Olive error code.

Destiny 2 Olive Error - What Does it Mean?

If you see this error pop up on your screen, you're going to have the natural reaction of annoyance and panic, wondering what you need to do. Don't worry. Bungie has you covered. They have an error code page already prepared for this, should any players encounter it. Here's what the Bungie help forums website says about Olive:

Please retry that activity again and resume what you were doing before the error occurred. If you encounter this error again, please exit Destiny then relaunch. If you continue to see this error, it’s likely due to testing we are doing on our end, please pardon our dust! Watch help.bungie.net and follow @BungieHelp for updates.

Overall, it looks like there are some hiccups in their system when this error pops up. When you get it, close down the game and do a full restart of the game and start over from the top. If you get it again, exit the game and then restart your machine. You want to properly turn it off and then on again to make sure your system does a clean sweep. Following those attempts, if you're still experiencing this error, it's like Bungie is testing something on its end.

Related: Destiny 2 Chicken Error - What Does It Mean?

It doesn't look like you're going to get much done if Bungie is testing something on its side of things. Unfortunately, you're going to have to wait for this one out or continue to fully power cycle the game by restarting it over and over again. If you're willing to endure it, then good luck. Regardless, it may take some time and starting Destiny 2 on day one means things are going to remain hectic.

Destiny 2 Servers Not Available, But Don't Fret, Bungie Are Working To Fix The IssueAidan O'BrienTue, 10/01/2019 - 17:40

Update: Bungie has tweeted to advise that the maintenance is still ongoing.

Original Story: The launch of Destiny 2 on Steam, and the New Light and Shadowkeep versions of the game have arrived today. It has not been going smoothly. Customers are getting hit with all sorts of error messages, and they also appear to be problems with the Cross-Save feature as well.

Things have gotten so bad that Bungie has pulled down the servers for Destiny 1 and Destiny 2 to try and work on a fix. Unfortunately, the problems seem to be especially bad on Steam, where Destiny is trying to have its first day as a game.

There is nothing much to be done at this point except keep an eye on the Bungie Help Twitter account to see when they bring the servers back up. While it's not helpful to try to log on to a game and not be able to, Bungie did seem to be taking a lot on their plate with the launch of the free-to-play version, Shadowkeep, and the new Steam version all in one day.

While I did predict that launch day issues would occur, I would be lying if I said I expected them to be as impactful as they have been. If you are at a loss about what to do until the servers come back online, I would suggest checking out Youtuber MynameisByf's 4-hour long video about the complete story of Destiny.

It is a fantastic piece of work, and if an excellent way to pass the time while we all wait to get back into the game again.

Destiny 2 - How To Perform Finishers

Finishers are a new feature added to Destiny 2 with the Shadowkeep update. They allow you to instantly finish off a weakened opponent, using a cool animation to do it. Depending on what weapons you run, it will enable you to whittle down an enemy's health bar quickly, then finish them off with your finisher move.

How To Perform A Finisher

To perform a finisher against an enemy, you must first reduce their health to a certain threshold. Finishers are execution moves and will kill the enemy outright. Damage an enemy until you see a yellow/golden circle appear over their head. This indicator tells you can hit the enemy with a finisher.

Once it appears, run towards them and hit the finisher button to perform the execute. This default button is "Q" on PC, and clicking the right thumbstick on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One by default.

When you hit the button, your Guardian performs the execution, instantly killing the enemy. The finisher doesn't appear to have a cooldown, and from what I can tell offers some generous invincibility-frames when you are performing it. Keep these in mind if you need to dodge something with some style.

Each of the three classes have a unique finisher for them to perform. You can buy a four-pack of finishers from Eververse, and equip them to your inventory screen to change their respective animations.

That's everything you need to know about Finishers in Destiny 2. Best of luck out there, Guardian!

Overwatch On Nintendo Switch Took Just Over a Year To DevelopRobert WorkmanTue, 10/01/2019 - 18:45

One would think cramming an experience like Overwatch into the Nintendo Switch would be a tiresome effort. But, surprise, the developers at Iron Galaxy were able to get the job done in record time.

Principal game producer Wes Yanagi admitted it during a recent interview with Vooks. He noted Iron Galaxy had done impressive work in the past with Activision before, namely on the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy port.

“Working with Iron Galaxy has been awesome,” Yanagi said. “Their team is very experienced working on the Nintendo Switch, and they taught us a lot about developing on the platform. It was also nice to have a fresh perspective on the codebase, which led to collaborative discussions on ways to better optimize the game.”

Then he talked about the port itself. Despite it slowing down to 30 frames per second compared to running at 60 on other consoles and PC, he feels the work is worth it for fans of the game.

“Work on the Switch version of Overwatch started a little over a year ago. There is a bit of complexity trying to catch up to a constantly evolving game. But getting Overwatch running is just the tip of the iceberg. Adding a new platform also means making sure it works within the entire Blizzard infrastructure. Many developers in all parts of the company, especially Battle.net, had a hand in bringing the Switch version to life,” Yanagi said.

The game will be available on Oct. 15 for Nintendo Switch and is accessible on other platforms now. Check out the trailer below in case you missed the initial announcement!

Pokemon Go: New Team Go Rocket Members RevealedMisael DuranTue, 10/01/2019 - 21:31

Pokémon Go has revealed new members for Team Go Rocket.

Earlier this week, the Pokémon Go Twitter account shared a few distorted images that came from a corrupt file. The photos linked to Team Go Rocket, an evil Pokémon organization based on Team Rocket from the main games.

All the images had the Team Rocket logo, with each picture showing a mysterious person. The distortion hid them, so it was difficult to make out what they were. One of them appeared to be an older woman. Another looked like a muscular man. The last person had a smaller build than the other two and was wearing some eye protection.

Today, Pokémon Go unveiled a new image. The new image is the last picture Professor Willow recovered from the corrupt file.

The new image shows a trainer confronting Team Go Rocket on a staircase. Surrounding Team Rocket are several Shadow Pokémon, which are Pokémon corrupted with Rocket’s evil and have a black aura around them. We now have a better view of each of the mysterious people. All three wear Team Rocket uniforms.

The woman is making eye contact with the trainer wearing a skintight, white uniform. Above her, on her left is the person with the smaller build from the distorted images. They are wearing a suit and some goggles. On the woman’s right, which is the left side of the image, is the buff man from the distorted images. He is also wearing a black uniform, and he is either wearing a hat or has big hair.

On top of the staircase is a person in a black business suit. Even though we cannot see this person clearly, it is probably Giovanni, the leader of all versions of Team Rocket. He is infamous for his black suit and his imposing personality.

The Pokémon Go Twitter account claims that the three new people are a part of Team Go Rocket, and warns players about it. The image is set to be a new loading screen image as a warning to all trainers in the game. The new members of Team Go Rocket are most likely some version of admins, which are durable trainers in the mainline Pokémon games that work for the evil organization. They aren’t stronger than the team leaders but are significantly more potent than the average grunt.

Online Co-Op And Versus Multiplayer Comes To Super Mario Maker 2Misael DuranTue, 10/01/2019 - 23:59

Super Mario Maker 2 gets a new update that adds in Online Co-Op and Versus Multiplayer.

Mario Maker 2 was released last summer and was well received. The game allowed players to construct their own Mario levels using similar tools that the developers use for the official Mario games. Players can add any enemies, power-up, or obstacle they want, and in any way they want.

One aspect of the game that received mixed reviews was the online functionality. Many people took issue with the fact that you can’t play online with your friends. Nintendo promises it will add more to online, yet things for Mario Maker 2 have become very quiet since the game was released.

Today on Nintendo of America’s official Twitter account, it was announced that a new update would get added to Mario Maker 2. The latest update is called version 1.1.0, and it includes new online features.

Version 1.1.0 allows players to play online with their friends in Multiplayer Versus or Multiplayer Co-op modes. Gamers can also select courses uploaded in Course World, as well as courses saved in the Coursebot. Coursebot also does not always need to be connected to the internet anymore to play sessions.

The update also adds in a list of Official Makers in the Leaderboards section in the game. You can now find makers on the Official Makers list and can discover new levels they made. You can even see what individual course makers make for a special occasion on this official list.

Other new features that version 1.1.0 brings is touchscreen control while in handheld mode. Players can now select a Play Together option directly from any level uploaded from a maker’s profile. Maker Profiles now include a user’s total amount of first time clears, which are the number of times a player was the first to make a new course.

PS4 Cross-Play Out Of BetaPaolo SirioWed, 10/02/2019 - 04:54

It took so long that we had almost lost our faith about it being possible, but here we are -- PS4 cross-play support is out of its beta stage.

As you might recall, Sony's always been somewhat cagey about chances for other players to play together with the PlayStation 4 owners. Still, under the pressure of people in the games industry has changed its mind and started to open the gates with Fortnite and a handful of other lucky titles.

Now, thanks to a report from Wired, we learn that this phase is now over and that any game willing to support cross-play can count PS4 in without any particular procedure to implement, just like on Xbox One and Nintendo Switch (and PC, of course).

"While it's not announcing the news explicitly, the PS4's cross-play efforts have officially moved out of the beta stage, meaning that the console can support cross-play on any titles that studios provide the functionality for," says Wired.

So, this is most likely the end of a page in the games industry that we would have been happy to skip at all. Sony has done everything it could to prevent PS4 owners from playing multiplayer games together with other platforms and had to surrender only due to Microsoft and its own players' pressure. Luckily enough, by the way, it's over.

PlayStation Now New Ad Uses Xbox Game Pass SloganPaolo SirioWed, 10/02/2019 - 05:02

We reported just a few hours ago about a new push for PlayStation Now, which is finally reducing its price for all the available subscriptions and introducing several blockbuster titles for a limited time, like GTA V and God of War.

This comes together with a big promotional push, which is the reason why you might be seeing PS Now ads all over the Internet, on TV and maybe even in your cities throughout the holiday season.

Fun enough, the first ads that Sony has started to place on the Internet are revealing that the company has taken a lot of inspiration in its communications from Microsoft and in particular from the competing service, Xbox Game Pass.

As remarked by ResetEra users, indeed, banners place on the net reveal PlayStation Now tagline "Discover your next favorite game," which is the same adopted by Xbox Game Pass since the E3 2019 days.

Xbox Game Pass

It isn't the first time that such big companies have similar ads, and from time to time, it even happens that they use games from the portfolio of the competitor for their own ads. I remember a case where Gran Turismo was promoted with a Forza Motorsport screenshot, so nothing huge.

Still, it's fun, and we'll see how Sony will try and differentiate its service from the competitor, something that shouldn't be very tough if you consider that PS Now does streaming while Game Pass doesn't.

Shawn Layden Reportedly Forced Out Of PlayStation Due To Confusion About PS5Paolo SirioWed, 10/02/2019 - 05:57

Yesterday, we reported about Shawn Layden's sudden departure from Sony, which has caught by surprise a lot of PlayStation fans and people in the industry.

At this time, the company has yet to provide a specific statement about the reasons that brought Layden to part ways with it, nor Layden has commented on the news of him leaving his office as the chairman at Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios.

However, GameDaily is now reporting a rumor, where it claims that Sony's vision about PS5 and cloud gaming have led to the separation, together with a state of "confusion" in first and third parties' approach to its next-generation platform due to the secrecy surrounding the platform in fear of leaks.

"This is the least amount of clarity we've ever had on a new console this close to transition," the source said. "I believe that the [global restructuring] is exponentially exacerbating the already difficult process of transitioning to a new generation. And now we’re getting nervous. Read: very nervous."

It's also worth noting that Layden was among those who pushed on single-player gaming and cross-play, something that Sony Interactive Entertainment new CEO Jim Ryan has always been skeptical about, whereas he's always preferred pushing on cloud gaming (as it's happening with PlayStation Now these days) and PS4 staying out of the pool of consoles supporting cross-platform play.

So all these reasons might have pushed Sony's upper management to decide parting ways with Layden, who's been for 27 years in the company.

Even with these rumors around, we can say Shawn Layden's contribution to PlayStation and the world of gaming will be missed, not only for what he has achieved lately with the likes of God of War, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Marvel's Spider-Man and so on, but also for his work over the last few decades.

Project Scarlett Reportedly Launching With Powerful CameraPaolo SirioWed, 10/02/2019 - 06:06

Microsoft has quite a troubled history when it comes to cameras, with the failure of Kinect still vibrant in our memory, but it looks like all this isn't preventing it from experimenting in the business.

According to a new report, indeed, Project Scarlett would be shipping together with a powerful camera that would help it become appealing to streamers, both populating its streaming platform Mixer and having indirect publicity in the process.

"Microsoft's camera is allegedly capable of 4K resolution with just a two-frame latency between what is recorded and what appears on a stream," says a report from Gizmodo, whereas the current Kinect camera at about 8ms to 10ms of latency.

"The tipster claims Microsoft is showing off the capabilities of the camera using a Snapchat-like demo that changes with the in-game lighting," adds the report, which gives you an idea about how much powerful this tech would be.

Xbox One now allows you to use any USB camera but with a minimal toolset, which doesn't work for professional streamers. With this type of webcam, instead, streamers would truly have a reason to see in Project Scarlett their next streaming platform when err, mixed with Mixer.

Project Scarlett releases in 2020, so there's still time for us to take a look at this camera before it officially launches (hopefully not bundled with the console, this time, eh?).
