Clash of Clans Generated $727 million in 2019, YoY Growth Since 2015Ethan ChenWed, 01/08/2020 - 16:55

Clash of Clans brought in $727 million in 2019 which represented its first year-over-year (YoY) growth in player spending since 2015, according to mobile data analytics firm Sensor Tower. This revenue also put Finnish developer Supercell as one of the top five highest grossing mobile game publishers globally in 2019.

The freemium mobile strategy title’s ‘Gold Pass’ was introduced in April of 2019. This new feature boasted a $4.99 price tag and contributed significantly to the growth in player spending. The Gold Pass, which is similar to Battle Passes in other games, accounted for up to $66.6 million worldwide within the first month of release.

Clash of Clans 2019 Revenue

Since the feature’s release, Clash of Clans grossed $597 million from April to December. This was a growth of 32% YoY from the $453 million generated in the same nine-month period in 2018. In addition, the mobile title's 2019 revenue saw growth of 27% from the $572 million brought in during 2018.

Clash of Clans launched on the App Store in 2012, with a later entrance to the Google Play store in 2013. With a rapidly growing player base, it became one of Supercell’s biggest hits with earnings of $1.6 billion in 2014.

The $722 million in player spending during the past year isn’t a return to Clash of Clans’ golden period between 2014 - 2015. Nonetheless, it still made up 42% of Supercell’s total 2019 revenue.

The Surge 2 Will Unleash the Kraken With Its First Expansion, Coming Next WeekRobert WorkmanWed, 01/08/2020 - 17:01

Deck13’s The Surge 2 turned out to be one of last year’s sleeper hits, with its hardcore action and beautiful presentation. And now, it’s about to expand even further with its first expansion.

The developer announced today that the Kraken DLC is set to arrive on Jan. 16. The first trailer released today, and it looks to be just as intense as the original game.

In this newest chapter, players will make their way to a new location — the aircraft carrier VBS Krakow. It’s out of active service, transformed into a luxurious retreat for those who can afford it. However, it’s since become overrun by deadly robots, and it’s up to you to clean house.

Those who purchased The Surge 2’s Season Pass will have earlier access to the Kraken episode, starting on Jan. 14. If you didn’t purchase it yet, the Pass is still available for $19.99. Those who purchase it will also get access to 13 new weapons, including the BORAX-I Quantum.

If you're interested but haven’t bought the game yet, Deck13 has a Premium Edition on the way. This version of The Surge 2 will also drop on Jan. 16, featuring the main game and all of its downloadable content. These include bonus goodies such as the URBN Gear Pack, the Public Enemy Weapon Pack and the Jericho’s Legacy Gear Pack. Pricing isn’t available just yet, but it’s likely to be around $49.99.

If you haven’t checked out The Surge 2, this is the perfect month to do so. It’s available now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

Death Stranding Leads Nominations for 20th Annual Game Developers Choice AwardsMisael DuranWed, 01/08/2020 - 17:06

Death Stranding leads the nominations in this year’s Game Developers Choice Awards. It appears the people decides what gets nominated were big fans of carrying boxes and seeing Norman Reedus pee.

The Developers Choice Awards will be celebrating its 20th ceremony this year, and this upcoming ceremony will celebrate the best games of 2019. It will take place in San Francisco in the Moscone Convention Center. Kim Swirft, who worked as a designer for games like Portal and Left 4 Dead, will host this year’s event.

The International Choice Awards Network decides what gets nominated, and who ends up winning in the end.

How to Make Lavender Ribbon Cookies in Destiny 2's Dawning 2019

The Dawning continues in Destiny 2, and people are still making their special treats for Eva Levante and delivering them to various NPCs throughout the game. One such gift you need to make is a Lavender Ribbon Cookie.

To make Lavender Ribbon Cookies, you will need:

  • 1 Vex Milk
  • 1 Personal Touch
  • 15 Essence of Dawning

You can get Vex Milk by killing Vex enemies, so make your way to the Nessus and The Watcher's Edge. There is a Lost Sector there that is overflowing with easy to kill Vex enemies to farm. It is not a guaranteed drop, so you might need to kill a few Vex before you get it.

Personal Touch requires melee kills to obtain. Lost Sectors anywhere in the game are a great way to get melee rapidly, but my favorite is right beside Braytech on Mars. You can also quickly farm this doing an Escalation Protocol event on Mars, which throws plenty of low-level Hive at you when it starts. You can easily melee them down with your standard melee attack; you won't even need your melee ability. Once again, Personal Touch is not a guaranteed drop, so make sure you keep punching away at the bag guys until you get it.

You can get Essence of Dawning by completing almost any activity in the game. These include bounties for Eva, patrols, escalation protocols, public events, heroic adventures, Gambit or Crucible matches, Nightfalls, or Forge Completiions.

When it is finished, take it to Saint-14 in the Tower Hangar. You can find him close to where Cayde-6 used to hang out, near Amanda Holiday. Remember, this is Saint-14's first Dawning, as he has only recently returned to the Tower. Make sure you bring him his treat.

Hitman 2 January Content Revealed, Including Another Chance to Off Sean BeanRobert WorkmanWed, 01/08/2020 - 18:07

Although January is usually a slow month for games, IO Interactive is keeping rather busy with Hitman 2. It’s just introduced its Jan. 2020 content, including the return of one of its most famous Elusive Targets.

Mark Faba is back, once again portrayed by actor Sean Bean. He’ll be on the radar in The Undying, a mission that will activate for 10 days starting on Jan. 17. During this time, you’ve got one shot to bring him down. If you miss, he’s gone for good. (It's worth noting that if you previously failed to kill him when the mission was first available, the contract will remain closed.)

In addition, IO interactive will introduce a slew of new Contracts. Eleven contracts, handpicked from the Official Submission Thread on the Hitman Forum, will be available for all players starting on Jan. 9. Expect some worthy challenges across a number of locations, including Hokkaido.

There will also be a handful of Curated Contracts available, chosen by a popular member of the Hitman Community, MulletPride.

Finally, IO Interactive will present a new behind-the-scenes video, featuring members of its development team. They’ll delve deep into what makes the game tick and provide a glimpse of what’s to come with February’s content. You can watch on Jan. 30 on both Twitch and Mixer.

Hitman 2 is available now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. If you need a reason why you should take out Sean Bean’s character, check out the trailer below.

How to Change Your League of Legends Champion Voices and Client Language

How to Change Your League of Legends Champion Voices and Client Language

This can apply to any language, though given the release of Sett, there’s been a surge in interest towards Japanese as a League Client language.

Why Japanese?

With the recent popularity around changing League’s client voices around Sett’s release, one has to consider the reason why. You need look no further than simply at who voices Sett - Takehito Koyasu, more famously known as the vampire Dio in popular anime and manga franchise JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.

Some of Sett’s lines are delivered in an incredibly Dio-esque fashion, and mutual fans between the franchises are wild. Those switching their language to Japanese will also be pleased to find fan favourites such as Masako Nozawa of Dragon Ball fame providing Wukong’s classic lines.

So, how do I do it?

Changing the language of your League of Legends client is a slightly more daunting task than it used to be. That isn’t to say it’s not simple, however. Formerly just a click of a button away, one will now have to peruse the data logs of their League installation in order to change a single line of text.

First, navigate your way through your League installation until you find your Config folder. Once inside, open the LeagueClientSettings file in Notepad.

navigation through installation

Once inside the LeagueClientSettings file, edit the following line, found under globals:

locale: "xx_XX" -> locale: "ja_JP"

step 2

From there on out, you should be more than fine to "MUDA! MUDA! MUDA!" your way to victory.

Capcom Promises Resident Evil 3 Remake Will Not Be Delayed

Capcom Promises Resident Evil 3 Remake Will Not Be DelayedJohn HansenWed, 01/08/2020 - 18:35

Capcom is feeling very confident about the Resident Evil 3 Remake hitting its planned release date on April 3. In an interview with Famitsu, producers Peter Fabiano and Masao Kawada said that the game is probably about 90 percent complete at the moment, and there should be no delay of the title's release.

Of course, this is good news for any Resident Evil fan, especially since the Resident Evil 2 remake received countless delays before releasing last year. Originally, the two games were going to be combined into a package, but to avoid further delays, RE2 released on its own, and RE3 was instead bundled with a new asymmetrical multiplayer game, Resident Evil: Resistance.

Resident Evil 3 was announced to be coming in April back during the final Sony State of Play in 2019. It was surprising to see the game announced so soon after Resident Evil 2’s release, but with the former plan outlined above, it makes sense that Capcom would be so close to being done on the game.

In another interview with Famitsu, Fabiano and Kawada explained how the RE3 remake would have "more rearranged elements" when compared to RE2. The most apparent change so far is Jill Valentine’s design to accommodate that she is going to be fighting her way out of Raccoon City. Where in the original game, she is wearing a tube top, skirt, and high boots, she now wears a more Lara Croft-esque tank top and jeans.

Arcadeo's Latest Game Chair Features Haptic Technology and Even Works With TVRobert WorkmanWed, 01/08/2020 - 18:38

If you’ve been looking for a good gaming chair but want something that does more than just provide a space for your butt, then Arcadeo has just what you require.

During the Consumer Electronics Show this week, Arcadeo Gaming announced its new “smart chair,” which enables those who sit in it to interact more with gaming and television shows, thanks to its built-in haptic features.

With a USB-C connection, players can activate 10 different “haptic zones” built into the chair, translating actions in games and shows through vibrations. Utilizing “SmartSense” tech built into the chair, users can adjust each of these zones for strength and frequency.

Want to bump up the frequency and amplitude during your latest session of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare? Crank up the settings all the way up. Want something a little calmer when you race in Forza Horizon 4? Dial back the other way.

Arcadeo Chair

You can see how these settings are applied into the chair with LED lighting built into the sides and the back. As you adjust, you can see its shading change, letting you know whether things are just right or not with them. Through an aligning app, you can adjust them even further if needed.

Although this is state-of-the-art tech, it’s also not bad with pricing. Arcadeo’s chair is set to sell somewhere around $800, with a release due sometime this year.

The only competitor it faces in the market is Acer’s “budget-friendly” Predator Thronos Air, which also has haptic technology built-in, along with other features. However, it’s way more expensive, clocking in at $14,000. Arcadeo’s $800 offering seems way less pricey by comparison.

To learn more about the chair, check out the official site here. And ask yourself, “How much butt rumbling do I need with my next session of Overwatch?” To some, maybe quite a bit.

Smite Season 7 Patch Notes and ChangesZack PalmWed, 01/08/2020 - 20:25

The Smite changes for the new year have arrived, and Season 7 is here for everyone to check out. The patch notes for the changes have come, and there's a hefty amount of things happening for 2020.

Usually, we'd list out all of the patch notes on our page. However, due to the length of them, we highly encourage you to check them out on Smite's official website. You can view them at your leisure and browse all of the little details. We're going to cover the more important information here.

Watch Season 7 Update Show from SmiteGame on www.twitch.tv

The most notable changes focus on the modifications to the Conquest map and the item changes. When it comes to the map, the middle lane harpies have split into two, the duo lane has a new series of harpies, there's a new camp called the Jungle Shrine, and the jungle monsters have increased health and protections. Players who view a jungle going down or watch an enemy player steal a buff will now have a timer on their minimap detailing the camp's respawn timer. If you're looking to assume the role of your team's Jungle, you'll want to familiarize yourself with these changes.

When it comes to the item changes, many of the magical-based items have received additional reworks. These favor more of the basic attack-based Mages, improving how many basic attacks they can dish out along with their strong abilities that deal a considerable amount of damage. Because the patch notes have been out for a little bit, players do have a bit of feedback.

Many on the Smite Reddit page fear the introduction of these powerful magical could reduce the effectiveness of the Physical-based fighters, namely Hunters. Hunters rely on increasing their attack speed to meaningfully attack and destroy their opponents, thereby lurching their team to victory. These new items could provide a switch with attack speed-based Mages assuming the role in the duo lane, while also having another Mage in the middle. The fear is there, and it's only the start of the season so that we won't see any valuable results until the first few weeks of playtime.

Beyond the map and item changes, Odin and Bastet received some ability reworks. Odin's ability, Gungnir's Might and his ultimate Ring of Spears, have been redone to make him viable on the battlefield beyond players relying on his jump-shield burst to provide damage. Bastet receives some interesting changes. Her passive now makes hunting down other players easier. While her ability Razor Whip is now an instant cone, her new ability Ensnaring Claw now gives her a noticeable root to corner an unsuspecting player in their lane and lay waste to them. Players might want to rethink tackling her in the jungle, especially now that her ultimate called Guardian of Bast gives her command of her cats.

There's a lot to review. The Season 7 changes will take place on Jan. 28 with the introduction of the 2020 Battle Pass, which any player can pick up before they start playing.

Does Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot have Multiplayer or Coop?

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is going to take you through the world of the Dragon Ball Z anime. You'll play as notable characters like Vegeta, Piccolo, Adult Gohan, and of course, the main character, Goku. With Kakarot being a massive Action-RPG, do you have the ability to play it with a friend or even fight one online?

At this time, we have no certain word or any sign of Kakarot having any online aspects. The world is a massive, semi-open area where players can explore these large environments. It's not entirely open-world where you go around everywhere as much as you want. You need to progress through the story at a decent rate to gain access to additional locations.

If you view the Kakarot store page on Steam, you'll see there are no tags or notches for a multiplayer, coop, or split-screen gameplay. The game will only have a singleplayer experience available when it launches. Given the initial approach, it's unlikely the developers are planning to create an online experience later down the line. Due to the RPG elements, they may want to keep it a closed experience for you to freely enjoy it without thinking about battling other players or competing in online tournaments.

While Kakarot does not feature a multiplayer, coop, or split-screen experience, you can always try out the other Dragon Ball Z titles with these features. The most notable ones are Dragon Ball FighterZ and the Xenoverse series.

You'll have plenty of things to do in the game because it could take you anywhere from 35 to 45 hours to complete it, and that's the main story. If you were to go through the game, checking off the side quests, and working through the achievements, you could find yourself taking even more time in the game. If you're thinking of picking up the game for the PC, make sure to check Kakarot's system requirements to see if you meet them. You can also pre-order the title and receive bonuses before it releases on Jan. 16 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

What Characters Can You Play in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot?

What Characters Can You Play in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot?

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot details the major story arcs from the popular anime Dragon Ball Z series, and it features the Sayian name of the main character, Goku. Despite it having his name in the title, we've seen brief gameplay footage of other characters with high levels in the game. What roles are going to available for you to play while going through the overall story?

Goku is the most notable hero, but he's not the only one doing the major fighting. For example, during the Cell Saga, Goku's son, Gohan, ascends past his father to a Super Sayian 2 and takes on Cell, saving the earth. It was his moment, and his time to shine, which makes sense if you play through this arc in Kakarot, you're going to play as Gohan. There are other notable characters of the series who have heroic moments when they stand up to the villains, regardless if they win or lose.

So far, these are the confirmed playable characters you can have in the game:

  • Goku
  • Gohan (Kid, Teen, Adult)
  • Piccolo
  • Gotenks
  • Trunks (Future)
  • Vegeta
  • Vegito

Each character will have a unique skill tree with different abilities and attacks you can unlock. You have to level them up separately from Goku, so you can expect to spend time with your favorite characters battling enemies in the game, increasing their power level, and getting them ready for their next big fight. Some fighters may have similar moves, such as Gohan and Goku sharing the Kamehameha special attack.

Those are all of the confirmed characters so far. But we could learn about others when the game releases. If that happens, we'll update this guide to reflect that knowledge when we get our hands on the title. We could expect surprising cameos from notable individuals who have shown up throughout the franchise, giving them a moment to shine in Kakarot.

If you want to grab the game for your PC, you may want to double-check Kakarot's system requirements to see if your hardware is capable of playing it. You'll also want to check out the pre-order bonuses available if you're looking to grab the game before it releases on Jan. 16.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot officially releases on Jan. 16 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

What is and How To Get Pinnacle Gear in Destiny 2

What is and How To Get Pinnacle Gear in Destiny 2

You want to gain access to the best gear in Destiny 2, to not only increase your Light level and make your Guardian stronger but to do more things in the game. The higher level you are, the more activities, strikes, and endgame content you and your friends can play together. The best way to increase your Guardian's Light level is to receive Pinnacle Gear from specific activities in the game.

How Destiny 2 Power Levels Work

You need to understand how to Light levels in Destiny 2 work because they determine the type of gear you want to go after. Right now, every Guardian in Destiny 2 starts at Power Level 750 with the introduction of the Shadowkeep expansion and the New Light free-to-play system. The low tier you want to aim for is getting above 900 Power Level. From there, you want to reach Power Level 960, and the hardest one is going to reaching Power Level 970. Players are going to feel the grind when they try to aim for the 970 Power Level.

With the introduction of the artifact, every player can go beyond this level when they obtain it. It helps players who have trouble get Pinnacle Gear. However, when the season ends, the artifact goes away, and players lose this power boost.

You shouldn't worry about attempting to reach Power Level 900 because you should enter it by going through the Shadowkeep story missions. When you complete those, you'll want to do extra activities on the Tower for the various NPCs there. You want to complete bounties for Shaxx, Zavala, The Drifter, Ikora, Banshee-44, The Sundial, and you can do clan activities for Suraya. These are the best sources to receive Powerful Gear, and you can also loot Exotic engrams to help boost your numbers. When you reach Power Level 960, though, Powerful Gear is not for you anymore.

How to Get Pinnacle Gear

It's time to move on to Pinnacle Gear. None of the reoccurring weekly vendors on the Tower provide this gear, and you can receive it by completing these tasks:

  • Garden of Salvation (the new raid)
  • Iron Banner bounties (a special event)
  • Nightfall: The Ordeal, scoring 100,000 points or more by the end of it
  • Nightmare Hunts on Master Difficulty
  • The Pit of Heresy

These special activities are strenuous. You won't be able to complete many of them alone. It would be best if you had a reliable team who are actively communicating with one another to get through most of this content. If you don't, you could easily find yourself failing over and over again. Pinnacle Gear contains the best weapons and armor in the game, so it makes why much of this is so challenging. While you may encounter exotics that completely change the way you play your character and offer great bonuses, you need the numbers of Pinnacle gear to push your Power Level higher to reach the best levels in the game.

When you reach 960, you're ready to play some harder content in Destiny 2. But, when you do reach the hard cap of 970, the game is not over quite yet. You can still go even higher by improving your artifact and making your Guardian stronger. If you have multiple Guardians, you can make sure they all gain Pinnacle gear throughout a season to become better.

The Difficulty Levels of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

You can go to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for the story, or you can go through it experience the grueling combat and balance the various oils and potions during combat. How you like to play doesn't matter, as long as you have a good time while doing so. Thankfully, with a few adjustments to your game settings, you can choose the best difficulty settings to make your experience an enjoyable one in The Witcher 3.

The Difficulty Settings of The Witcher 3

You have four different difficulty options when you first play the game:

  • Just the Story
  • Story and Sword
  • Blood and Broken Bones
  • Death March

The first two options provide the most comfortable gameplay experience. You won't have to worry too much about using your potions, grenades, oils, or seek out high-level gear to benefit your combat prowess. Instead, if you use the basic attacks and the correct sword to fight your enemy, you can take them down with a few swings when you play on these choices. You want to pick these if you're more interested in experience the story of The Witcher 3, and you're not playing the game to have intense combat experiences.

The challenge ramps up when you pick Blood and Broken Bones. You won't gain as much experience points for completing tasks, the enemies have additional health, and they hit harder than they usually would in the lower difficulties. You'll want to play this if you're comfortable dodging, using oils, and want to rely on potions during combat. When you meditate, you do not gain back any vitality, meaning you need to use food or potions to regain it when you lose it.

The hardest difficulty is Death March. You only want to be on this difficulty if you've become accustomed to parrying in the game, using your magic, knowing what oils damage enemies, and can obtain a wide variety of potions to enhance your abilities. Much like Blood and Broken Bones, you don't gain as much experience points, the enemies hit harder, and they have more health. You won't be able to gain vitality through meditation, either. You may want to play through the game at least once on Blood and Broken Bones before attempting to tackle this challenge, even if you have played other action-adventure games before The Witcher 3.

You pick the difficulty at the beginning of the game, but you can adjust it any time from the options menu. Pull it up in the middle of your game and go to the Gameplay settings to turn the difficulty up or down, depending on how you're playing.

How to Reset Skill Points in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

You can reset your skill points in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. But you have to go out of your way to locate a merchant who has the Potion of Clearance for sale. You can purchase this potion, drink it, and can rearrange your skill points in any way you want to redo them. There are limited amounts of this potion in the game.

Finding Potions of Clearance to Reset Skill Points in The Witcher 3

These are the notable merchants who sell you the Potion of Clearance:

  • Keira Metz in Velen
  • A Merchant in Novigrad
  • Gremist on the Skellig Islands
  • A Herbalist on the Skellige Islands

Keira Metz Location in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Keira Metz is the first person among this group who will sell you the potion. She sells it to you after receive the An Invitation from Keira Metz quest after you've assisted in helping her out. If you ask to see her wares, you'll see the Potion of Clearance is the first item available.

The Novigrad Merchant in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

After that, there's a merchant in Novigrad in the Hierarch Square, toward the northeast portion of the area. You can find them right next to the notice board where you can pick up quests, inside of a building beyond the open square.

Gremist and Herbalist Location in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The final two are on the Skellige Islands, but they are pretty close to one another. Much like Keira, you need to finish a quest first, Practicum in Advanced Alchemy, before Gremist offers to sell it to you. The other herbalist, though, does it for you immediately. He's to the south of Gremist.

You can pick up the potion and not use it, so you might want to buy it to use it when you think you want to redo your skill tree. Although Keira is probably the last person, you want to purchase the potion from because of how early you meet her. She offers it to you when you're at a low level, so it's not worth picking up. Plus, the Potion of Clearance costs 1,000 Crowns. You don't want to waste your gold that early in the game. You may wish to purchase it from the Novigrad merchant of the Skellige vendors. Regardless, it's good to know where Keira is if you want a reliable location to buy the potion.

After you drink it, you can go into your skill tree to start placing your points to create a brand new build to try out in The Witcher 3.

Play Pokémon May Have Leaked A Pokémon Form That Isn't In Sword And Shield YetMisael DuranThu, 01/09/2020 - 01:14

Pokémon fans are starting to speculate like crazy about what the upcoming Pokémon Direct will show, and a recent tweet shared by Play Pokémon may have unintentionally shown off what will be revealed this Thursday.

Play Pokémon is a Twitter account that is fully supported by the official Pokémon Company. The main focus of Play Pokémon is to share details about how to play all types of Pokémon-based media, including the Pokémon Trading Card Game, mobile games, and mainline games.

The account recently tweeted out an image of a double-team battle in Pokémon Sword and Shield. The image is accompanied by some text that gives readers some tips on how to use certain Pokémon’s abilities and moves effectively. However, what’s interesting about this tweet is the fact that it shows off a Pokémon form that isn’t in the games yet.

Gastrodon is a slug-like Pokémon that has two forms – an east sea form and west sea form. East Gastrodon’s are blue, whereas west ones are pink. Sword and Shield only have the blue form Gastrodon.

The image shared by Play Pokémon, however, shows a pink Gastrodon in battle, which shouldn’t be possible in the game. The account eventually took down the tweet, but GameXplain was able to share a screenshot of the now-deleted tweet with a video. The screenshot came courtesy of Twitter user PhillyBeatzU.

Since the tweet was quickly deleted, it could be presumed that Play Pokémon was too hasty with the release of that information. If pink Gastrodon is coming to the game, then other forms of Pokémon can make their way into Sword and Shield.

The upcoming Direct may give fans more information about the mysterious Pokémon Home, which could potentially allow players to transfer their Pokémon from previous games onto Sword and Shield. There's a possibility that the Pokémon Company will be releasing new Pokémon into the games via updates or patches.

Jim Ryan: PlayStation 5’s “Bigger Differences” Are Yet To Be RevealedRobert WorkmanThu, 01/09/2020 - 01:51

This year will be a big one for Sony, as it will officially reveal and then release the PlayStation 5. But Sony Interactive president and CEO Jim Ryan promised that it will have some surprises in store, as its “biggest differences” haven’t been announced yet.

Ryan recently spoke to Business Insider Japan a little further on what to expect but stopped short of giving anything away.

“Each time a new console is released, the processor and graphics improve,” he explained when it came to the evolving nature of game systems. “Those are enticing, of course, but we need to have special appeals as well. We have already confirmed the use of a solid-state drive. Having load times that are next to nothing is a major change.”

He then delved into a couple of other features revealed during the company’s CES presentation earlier this week. “3D audio and the haptic feedback support of the controller are also things that, when you try them, you will be surprised at how big a change they are. Even just playing the racing game Gran Turismo Sport with a PlayStation 5 controller is a completely different experience. While it runs well with the previous controller, there is no going back after you experience the detailed road surface via haptic control and play using the adaptive triggers.”

And then he hinted at what’s to come. “But you know. There are still more unique elements for PlayStation 5 to come that separate it from previous consoles. The ‘bigger differences’ have yet to be announced.”

But don’t worry, PlayStation 4 owners. You won’t be left behind so quickly. Ryan added, “During the migration from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5, there will still be a great deal of PlayStation 4 users. That is very important and we have an obligation to those users. In the same way, we need to work out new appeals for PlayStation 5. This year will be a tough, but special year for us compared to previous console releases.”

The PlayStation 5 is set to release sometime this holiday, though a specific date isn’t available just yet.

Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition On Switch Will Offer Style ChangeMisael DuranThu, 01/09/2020 - 01:58

It looks like Devil May Cry 3 on the Nintendo Switch will offer a new gameplay feature that was not in other versions of the game.

Capcom, the publishers of the DMC series, hinted that the Switch version of the upcoming re-release of Devil May Cry 3 might have “A Little Something Extra.” Based on new information on the official Devil May Cry website, we may now know what that something extra is.

The website claims that the gameplay function for DmC 3 on Switch will have a new Style Change system. The website describes Style Change as allowing players to “experience the action through a number of unique Styles.” Style Change suggests that players would be able to switch different combat styles on the fly during real-time gameplay.

The screenshots shared on the official sited showed the main character, Dante, using the Swordmaster and Gunslinger Styles. According to Siliconera, this would more closely match the gameplay style that Dante will later adopt in Devil May Cry 4.

Devil May Cry 3 is a prequel to the original Devil May Cry video game. DMC 3 takes place earlier in Dante’s career as a demon-slaying badass. Dante needs to reach the top of a mysterious tower that serves as the conduit to the Demon World to confront his older brother, Vergil.

It was initially released as Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening in 2005 on the PlayStation 2, a Special Edition and HD versions of the game would later be ported onto other systems. The Special Edition version will release on the Nintendo Switch on Feb. 20, 2020.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Demo Reportedly Launching On March 3Paolo SirioThu, 01/09/2020 - 05:11

According to a feature article from GameSpot, a Final Fantasy VII Remake demo is scheduled for a March 3, 2020 release on PS4.

The demo has been leaked on PlayStation Store by mistake and then removed. However, it was too late to prevent dataminers and early players from putting their hands on the biggest secrets of the remake.

This demo doesn't have a release date yet, but based on intel gathered by GameSpot, it seems that it is "scheduled for March 3 on PS4."

The feature acknowledges that "due to a recent leak, a ton of details are emerging around the game, so if you don't want to get spoiled, we highly encouraged staying away from anything remotely related to the demo."

Should this prove right, the Final Fantasy VII Remake demo would be launched on PlayStation Store together with the full game. We don't know precisely about its content, outside of the leaks. Still, it could be different or at least slightly different from the core title to justify it would be releasing upon day one - we're thinking of Final Fantasy XV's Episode Duscae.

Leaks are usually painful for developers, and scenario writer Kazushige Nojima hasn't hidden his disappointment at all the FFVII Remake's material that has been appearing on the Internet well ahead of time. He said that "seeing everything getting leaked after so much work is making my stomach hurt."

Titanfall 2 - Best FPS PC Game
Bryan LawverThu, 01/09/2020 - 05:26

Since their early days with games like Doom and Wolfenstein 3D, first-person shooters have gained an only sometimes deserved reputation for their fast-paced action and in-your-face violence. While that particular brand of FPS is still thriving to this day, the genre has also grown to encompass more strategy, more nuance, and most of all, new ways to play.

For our list of the best FPS games on PC, we looked at all the different variations and sub-genres of the first-person shooter and tried to pick out the ones that do something no other game does, or pull off classic FPS gameplay the best.

Doom

Doom

The original Doom, released in 1993, is such a foundational part of the FPS genre that for years, first-person shooters were known merely as Doom clones. In 2016, after trying for years to get Doom 4 off the ground, id Software brought the series back to life with a new game just called Doom. This entry in the long-running series managed to capture everything great about the original and update it for modern players.

Doom is everything you could want from an old-school style shooter. It’s got an impressive level design, a killer soundtrack, a great sense of humor, a wide array of hellish enemies, and the overpowered weapons you need to blow them apart. More than just being a throwback, though, Doom finds new ways to keep the action charging forward by forcing you to get up close and personal to keep your health and ammo stocked up. There’s no better game on this list if you’re looking for one to help you blow off some steam, at least until Doom Eternal comes out.

Titanfall 2

Titanfall 2

Titanfall 2 never really got the chance it deserved, launching between Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and underperforming financially because of it. It’s failure to find an audience on release has nothing to do with the game’s quality, though, because Titanfall 2 has one of the best single-player FPS campaigns of all time.

In Titanfall 2, you play as a mech pilot both in and out of your mech. On foot, you have a vast arsenal of different weapons and great traversal options, like the game’s signature wall run.

In your mech, you have access to a swappable suite of defensive and offensive capabilities ranging from missile launchers to forcefields.

The campaign gives you plenty of opportunities to use your varied weapon sets to lay waste to enemies, but what makes it shine is its innovative levels and the surprisingly deep connection between Jack Cooper, the player character, and BT-7274, his mech. Some of Titanfall 2’s best levels are built on their surprising premises, which we don’t want to spoil here, but they’re guaranteed to leave a long-lasting impression when you get there.

Overwatch

Overwatch

With its role-based multiplayer gameplay, Overwatch, in many ways, grew out of games like Team Fortress 2, but it takes the formula to a whole new level. Like any multiplayer game with frequent updates, Overwatch goes through phases where players may not be happy with its balance. Still, it’s maintained a thriving community and an active competitive scene nonetheless.

Overwatch’s core gameplay is simple but satisfying, revolving around capturing control points or pushing payloads with your team. What makes it stand out is its characters and how they work together. Characters in Overwatch have such varied skills that choosing a new one makes it feel almost like an entirely different game. They’re so diverse that even players who don’t like FPS games might find something they like here. If gunplay alone isn’t your thing, there are enough characters focused on healing teammates or setting up defenses that you hardly have to pick up a gun at all.

Players love their favorite characters so much that they’ve been clamoring for more single-player modes and story nearly from day one. Blizzard is delivering some of that in the upcoming Overwatch 2 and continually fleshes out the game’s world in comics and videos, even if they sometimes drop the ball in that regard.

Apex Legends

Apex Legends

In one way, Apex Legends can be seen as a sort of mashup of several different games. It combines the battle royale structure popularized by Fortnite and PUBG with the diverse characters of Overwatch and throws in some of the satisfying traversals of Titanfall 2 (also by Apex Legends developer Respawn). Despite that, it’s more than the sum of its parts, and it can easily appeal to players who aren’t even fans of any of its influences.

Every game of Apex Legends feels fresh, thanks to the vast amount of weapons and upgrades you can find throughout its sprawling map. The random nature of finding equipment combined with the differences in how each character plays make for always surprising battles and make changing strategies on the fly an absolute necessity. On top of that, it features some pioneering communication features, like its ping system, which is already being copied in other games, that make it possible to coordinate tactics with your teammates without ever speaking a single word.

Destiny 2

Destiny 2

Originally released only for consoles, Destiny 2 has more recently made its way to PC to get a whole new bunch of players stuck in its never-ending grind. As an MMOFPS, Destiny 2 is endlessly playable, whether you’re looking for an intense competitive multiplayer or a cooperative story mode. Its addictive upgrade loop is honed to perfection, and any time you reach the pinnacle of the loot grind, Destiny 2 has another update around the corner to give you a new goal to shoot.

Of course, just having a compulsive loop isn’t enough to make Destiny 2 great. It’s the finely tuned gameplay and a massive variety of weapons that make it a must-play. From swords to rocket launchers to lasers, Destiny 2 has it all when it comes to sci-fi weapons, and each other, its three classes have a range of abilities to add even more variety. Its enemies are just as varied, with multiple factions bringing different tactics and skills to the battle.

If you’re still on the fence, Destiny 2’s base campaign is now free to play, offering you hours of single-player missions and as much multiplayer as you want for no cost. You’ll only have to pay for expansions, and if you reach the point where you need to shell out for them, you’ll already be hooked.

PS5 Won't Have a PlayStation 4-Like Three-Month Delay In JapanPaolo SirioThu, 01/09/2020 - 05:29

In an interview with Business Insider Japan translated by Gematsu, Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO Jim Ryan has discussed the PS4 launch's delay in Japan, which he ultimately considers "not (...) a good idea."

Ryan didn't want to offer a comment about whether a similar solution would be used for the release of PlayStation 5. Still, he did hint at changes in the way the console is set to be launched on a worldwide scale compared to the current generation platform.

PS4 was shipped three months later in Japan in February 2014, and that "delay (...) was a decision that I was deeply involved in," Ryan said.

Ryan is new in the role of President and CEO at SIE, but back in 2013, he still was an executive with responsibility on the European territory.

"There was reasonable ground for that decision, but these days I do not think that was a good idea," he added, basically claiming that the strategy is going to be different this time, especially not to leave further room for competitors in the homeland. "It was a decision made after much debate, but there may have been other options."

In particular, Nintendo Switch accounted for 76% of Japan console sales in 2019, and Sony is predictably interested in changing that by the end of 2020 and 2021 without further delays in their roadmap.

While Japan is seemingly going to witness a 1v1 battle between Sony and Nintendo next year, Microsoft is also interested in making its position in that territory stronger in the future. Phil Spencer has hinted more than once that he would like to acquire a Japanese developer down the line.
