Xbox Series X Back Reportedly Featuring A Single HDMI, Two USB-A PortsPaolo SirioWed, 01/08/2020 - 06:12

A report from Thurrott reveals that the back of Xbox Series X will surprisingly feature two USB-A ports and a single HDMI port.

Earlier this week, AMD had shared a mockup of the next-generation console from Microsoft, but that picture was quickly debunked as Xbox still doesn't have a definitive plan for the back of the Xbox Series X. The tech firm reckoned the mockup was indeed a render acquired from TurboSquid.

Talking to "several insiders," Thurrott was reportedly able to obtain more specific information about the current state of the back of Xbox Series X, which we're told could change in time for the release of the platform by the end of 2020.

"As it stands right now," the console's back is featuring:

  • two USB-A ports "of the SuperSpeed variety"
  • one Ethernet port
  • a single HDMI port
  • an optical audio port
  • a power connection port

The current state of the console is also coming with another port that "may be used for debugging," but the sources haven't agreed on its actual use at the time being. It looks safe to state that it would not be coming in the final SKU.

These ports are reportedly located on the lower half of the hardware so that even the back of the device has "openings for air intake." The set-up should grant, together with the openings on the top of the console, a suitable temperature when playing games.

It's surprising to see that a 2020 device is adopting USB-A ports when the tech industry is moving to Type-C faster and faster. It could be that the prototype currently in the hands of developers is featuring them just as a placeholder, though, and that things might change with the release of the final model.

Xbox Series X has debuted at last December's The Game Awards, featuring a trailer which turned to be so impactful that its slogan, "Power Your Dreams," has even been trademarked. It's launching by the Holiday together with Halo Infinite, it was revealed at last year's E3.

Resident Evil 3 To Have "More Rearranged Elements" Compared to Resident Evil 2

Resident Evil 3 To Have "More Rearranged Elements" Compared to Resident Evil 2Paolo SirioWed, 01/08/2020 - 06:35

In an interview with Famitsu, as translated from Japanese by Siliconera, Capcom's producers Masao Kawada and Peter J. Fabiano revealed more details about Resident Evil 3, including that the remake is set to feature "more rearranged elements" compared to Resident Evil 2.

The game is said to be more "action" oriented in comparison with the previous game, as hinted a few weeks ago, where the theme was "the fear of zombies." As a reaction to this switch, Jill's costumes design had to be changed so that it "doesn't look uncomfortable" during fights.

Among the elements that were "rearranged" the most, we can find the B.O.W. Nemesis "as a new weapon" that players will meet throughout their journey in Raccoon City. The story will also offer "a fresh new take," mainly in response to those "added rearrangements," so even if you are familiar with the original game, you'll have several surprises.

As for Carlos, Capcom not only worked on a new appearance for this character but also on his personality; he'll like "joking around and talking idly," but will still kind with Jill and other allies of the U.B.C.S. faction. For what matters Brad Vickers, the developer didn't reveal much as "we want you to see him in the game," but we're told that "circumstances have changed a bit," so he will be one of those surprises mentioned above.

About the development of the game, the work is around 90% complete and that there won't be any delay even if the release date was only shared last December. While both based on the themes of escape, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil Resistance, its multiplayer mode, are not related and are being made as completely standalone from each other.

Resident Evil 3 is launching on April 3, 2020. Differently from the 2019's remake of Resident Evil 2, it's being co-developed with an external partner, and that would explain how it was possible to have it almost ready so fast.

Epic Working to Return Lost Star Wars Achievements in FortniteAidan O'BrienWed, 01/08/2020 - 07:52

Fortnite's recent Star Wars event gave people the change to get all kinds of skins, gliders, and achievements in the game. Like all events in the game, it ran for a limited time, but when it ended, players started to notice that their achievements had disappeared. Redditor Romulousvoid posted a thread after they spotted the issue, and the number of affected players quickly began to add up.

Fortunately, Epic is aware of the issue, according to a card on the Community Issues Trello board. While it is not a game-breaking bug by any means, it is very nice to be able to into the Career tab and check when you get all your achievements, like a living tribute to your time spent in the game. If you have noticed that your Star Wars achievements have gone missing, you need to sit tight while Epic work on the issue.

With the Star Wars event and Winterfest, coming to an end, you might be wondering what is next in Fortnite. The snow has begun to recede, and another mission will be opening tomorrow. Nobody is sure what the new mission will entail just yet, but it will hopefully provide us with plenty of challenges to keep us occupied until the end of the current season

If you have unfinished Missions, you will want to get them all wrapped up by the middle of February, which is when the current season is expected to end. You will need to finish them all to get your hands on the alternate styles for your Battle Pass skins from the Alter Ego mission

If You Found Netflix's the Witcher Confusing, Season 2 Aims to Fix ThatAidan O'BrienWed, 01/08/2020 - 08:38

Netflix's adaptation of The Witcher has been a massive success with fans. It was one of the most in-demand shows when it launched, and drove a considerable amount of players back to The Witcher 3 for another round of Geralt's adventures. Despite the success of the show, it was not without its issues, but the creators are well aware and plan on fixing this in season two.

According to showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich, who was responding to questions during a Reddit AMA on Jan. 7, while they can't commit to a release date for the second season just yet, other than "past 2021", that are already making plans for how to make things a little less confusing for people.

The first season is told across different timelines, something Hissrich feels was necessary to build up all three essential characters. "The narrative structure was put in place so that we could tell Geralt's short stories (the foundation of the whole Witcher world, in my opinion), while Ciri and Yennefer could also be a part of the action," Hissrich said.

Another issue that Hissrich feels the show had is how they struggled to show the passage of time; something made more complicated by how Witchers and powerful spellcasters like Yennifer age. This became obvious concerning Jaskier. "Yes, we dropped the ball on aging him up over the course of the show."  Hissrich said, "It's hard to show the passage of time when everyone looks the same, so we'll be approaching that differently in S2".

For the second season, it will be far more straightforward. "The story will be much more linear, now that the three characters' stories have started to intersect," Hissrich told another fan

Hissrich was careful not to drop any spoilers during the AMA, but it is clear that the cast and crew are listening carefully to feedback, and want to make season two even more engaging for fans.

Rumor: January 9 Pokémon Direct Will Share New Details About Sword and ShieldJess SimmondsWed, 01/08/2020 - 09:13

Pokémon Direct airs later this week, bringing with it new information about the wildly popular franchise. According to Nintendo, the livestream will feature “roughly 20 minutes of new Pokémon information,” but what this will involve is still a mystery. Since Pokémon Sword and Shield were released just a couple of months ago, on Nov. 15, 2019, it is unlikely that Nintendo will be announcing a new game already. This leaves fans wondering what exactly will be announced during the presentation.

Twitter user @Ruki185 has posted a screenshot of what appears to be a German press release, which “specifically states” that the presentation will contain “new details” about both Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. The Twitter user got this information from the German NoE press server.

However, since Nintendo has not confirmed this information, there is no telling what will be revealed during the presentation.

Many fans were hoping for a remake of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, which were initially released on the Nintendo DS in 2006. Still, there has been no substantial evidence to suggest this. Since Sword and Shield are the latest Pokémon titles, it would be surprising if the new information isn’t connected to them in some way.

Pokémon Direct will stream live at 6:30am PT (9:30am ET / 2:30pm GMT / 3:30pm CET) on Friday Jan. 9th, and fans can tune in to see what Nintendo have in store for the year ahead.

How to Get Fish Oil in Warframe

How to Get Fish Oil in Warframe

Fish Oil is a resource in Warframe that you can get by catching fish on the Plains of Eidolon. By fishing in the lakes and pools on the Plains of Eidolon, you can catch a large assorted of fish. If you bring the fish to Fisher Hai-Luk at Cetus, you can then choose the "Cut Fish" option to farm your catches for materials. How much oil each fish will give will depend on the size of the fish.

Fish Oil is used to rank up with the Ostrons, and also for some Cetus specific blueprints. Fishing is a straightforward process in the game, so gathering up a lot of Fish Oil quickly is very easy to do. The amount of fish that you catch will also be affected by the Smeeta Kavats Charm ability and any resource boosters that are active at the time.

The fish which gives the most Oil is the Murkray, which can be found in the ocean during the day, or the night. You will need a Lanzo spear to catch it effectively. A small Murkray gives 7 Fish Oil. You get eight from the medium Murkray, and nine from a large Murkray. You do need special Bait to catch Murkray, which you can get from Fisher Hai-Luk at Cetus for Ostron Standing, as long as you have hit the rank of Visitor with the Syndicate.

The best source of Fish Oil for unbaited fish is the Mortus Lungfish. These can be found in ponds, during the day or at nighttime, and are caught using the Lanzo and Peram spears. The small Mortus Lungfish will give four Fish Oil, the medium Lungfish will provide six, and the large Lungfish will give you eight Fish Oil when you take it to Fisher Hai-Luk.

League of Legends Champ Volibear Gets Rework as We Thunder Toward 2020 Season

League of Legends Champ Volibear Gets Rework as We Thunder Toward 2020 SeasonIbriz DayaWed, 01/08/2020 - 10:30

Teased in the 2020 Season trailer, an old favorite gets some much-needed love to bring him in line with the competition. Both visually and gameplay-wise, Volibear has evolved—but only time will tell if it’s for the better.

Given that we have zero information in regards to a potential kit—none of Volibear’s current abilities screaming “iconic,” besides his bite—all we can base our judgments on are the champion’s appearance.

However brief it may have been, the new Volibear tease looks gorgeous, an eldritch ice horror of your wildest imaginations. This is a stark contrast compared to his current, almost goofy form, which has deservedly earned a place in numerous hearts.

How Volibear’s occasionally hilarious skins will adapt to such a serious overhaul will be something to follow. Riot has made a thematic change work before—see every April Fool’s skin—but Volibear’s new aesthetic gravity really does call into question just how this beast of a champion can be made into '80s buddy cop comedy Officer Volibear.

While Volibear was the only “new” champion teased in the Season 2020 trailer, he is not the only one in line for an introduction. New face Sett will be making an appearance on the Rift next week, and Volibear’s similarly outdated compatriot Fiddlesticks is also in line for some Spring cleaning.

It’s always bittersweet to say goodbye to an old champion’s fundamentals—Irelia, Akali, Mordekaiser, Mordekaiser again—but in order to keep up to date and competitive, some changes needed to be made. Volibear isn’t the first, and he won’t be the last.

How Long Is Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot

Dragon Ball Z: Karakot will be trying to encompass the entire Dragon Ball Z saga in an action-roleplaying game, so if you are under the impression it should be filled with content, then you are correct.

According to Japanese magazine Famitsu, which was detailed on Hokanko-Alt, the game will take 35-40 hours to complete the main storyline, and engaging with all the side quests should bring playing time up to 100 hours. The game will include some of the significant moments from the long-running series, as well as light-hearted side quests, and never before seen story elements. The game's blurb on Steam also promises to answer "some burning questions of Dragon Ball lore for the first time," so this should be very interesting for long term DBZ fans.

As soon as we get our hands on the game and finish our first playthrough, we will update this guide with our own experience about how long it took to finish.

Battles will take place in vast battlefields with destructible environments, against iconic enemies like Raditz, Frieza, and Cell, and you will need to engage with the game's RPG mechanics to increase your power level. Goku won't be starting with his full power levels. Instead, you will need to immerse yourself in Goku's life and help him develop. You will also be fishing, flying around the world, fishing, and eat plenty of food to power your training.

If you are planning on picking up Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot on PC, you might want to check out the minimum and recommended requirements. We also have a full guide on the game's pre-order bonuses, if you are thinking about buying in early.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will release on Jan. 16, 2020, on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

New Console Lets You Relive Game Boy's Glory Days on Your TVRobert WorkmanWed, 01/08/2020 - 10:34

Move over, Super Game Boy. There’s a new way for players to enjoy their favorite handheld games through television.

Hyperkin, a company that specializes in systems that revitalize retro games for modern televisions, has announced the Retron Jr.,which will be of great use to those who embrace Nintendo’s handheld games.

The cube-shaped system will allow players to use their Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance through a cartridge slot. They can enjoy their favorite titles on their TV with 720p support through HDMI. This will be done through emulation, rather than with an FPGA chipset, which is the way competitor Analogue's Pocket handheld, also used to play Game Boy cartridges, will work when it's released later this year.

Hardware-wise, the system will include a SNES-like Scout controller, which comes with a 6-foot long cable. There’s also a 3.5mm headphone port, for those who like playing Game Boy games the same way they might have done in the past, with the help of their favorite headset.

Lastly, there’s a link port. With this, players can connect two Retron Jr. systems together and play older games that support multiple players.

This system could easily be a hit for those with a huge Game Boy library. However, Hyperkin hasn’t provided information as to when it’ll come out, or how much it’ll set them back. Expect some kind of follow-up in the months ahead, along with details on whether it’ll support import Game Boy games. We know a lot of you who get a kick out of collecting those.

Final Fantasy XV Hitting the Mobile Front With a New MMORPGRobert WorkmanWed, 01/08/2020 - 10:59

Square Enix apparently has a new story to tell in the world of Final Fantasy XV.

A report from Inven confirms that the publisher has teamed up with South Korean developer JSC Games and Chinese-based GAEA Mobile to produce a new massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) for mobile devices, based on its latest numbered entry in the Final Fantasy series.

It will be called Final Fantasy XV Mobile, and it’s set to utilize Unreal Engine 4 technology. Once released, publishing will be handled through Shanghai Oriental Pearl Group. Final Fantasy XV Mobile is set to release first in China, although it will eventually make its way to market worldwide. No word yet if it’s a free-to-play title or a premium release.

This mobile spin-off will take place in a different part of Final Fantasy XV’s world, following when Noctis begins his perilous journey. There will be a number of regions for players to explore, along with a slew of characters, highlighted in the promotional image below.

Final Fantasy XV MMORPG

JSC Games says it hopes to capture the same style of visuals as the original Final Fantasy XV, combined with a gameplay system built around touch-screen controls. This is an ideal set-up considering it’s a mobile release.

Very little is known about the story outside of its timeline, but Square Enix expects to release a trailer somewhere during the first half of 2020. We could get a closer glimpse of what JSC Games has in store anywhere between now and E3,

Here’s hoping the game ends up being more along the lines of Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition, and not so much the forgettable A New Empire.

Legends of Runeterra Getting a New Board Skin and Mecha Dragon Guardian SoonRobert WorkmanWed, 01/08/2020 - 11:58

Riot Games isn’t wasting any time when it comes to starting off League of Legends’ new year with a bang.

The company released a new video showing off what’s to come with its games, including Legends of Runeterra. And while it didn’t mention any of Runeterra’s content specifically, it looks like a new board skin and Mecha Dragon Guardian are on the way.

Based on details from our sister site Dot Esports, there appears to be a new board coming to Legends of Runeterra, based off of the Freljord. It resembles an alternate board skin, which offers a change of pace from the standard board that players in the closed beta are currently using.

Along with that, there are teases of a new Guardian, aside from the Poro one that’s already featured within the game. A card appearing on the bottom left of the screen indicates that a new Mecha or Hextech Dragon will be on hand, giving players another “pet” to select from. This would also provide a change of pace from the Poro or its Moonstruck variation, which was available to those who have already pre-ordered.

Legends of Runeterra remains in closed beta at the moment, but Riot Games has promised a new cycle will start up sometime this quarter. The video above notes that more information on Riot Games’ 2020 plans will be detailed over the course of the week, so we’ll see what the publisher has in store.

One thing’s for sure — the company’s card battler is ready to shift gears in a big way. That’s good news leading into its 2020 release.

Where to Find Cabal Champions in Destiny 2

Where to Find Cabal Champions in Destiny 2

There are currently two main reasons you might be trying to hunt down Cabal Champions in Destiny 2. One is for the Strictly Enforced Bounty that Saint-14 can give you; the other is for the Devil's Ruin Exotic quest.

For the Strictly Enforced Bounty, the best place to go is the Sundial on Mercury. You don't even need to do a run in the Sundial, because there should be a Cabal Champion hanging around outside the Sundial itself. When you spawn in, run up the steps, and you should have no problem finding him. Cabal Champions are fierce enemies, so make sure to bring hard-hitting weapons like Hand Cannons, Shotguns, and Rocket Launchers, and you will make quick work of him.

If you don't have access to the Sundial, then any Nightfall Ordeal at 920 Power or higher that involves the Cabal will get you some Champions as well.

The Devils Ruin quest is a little bit different. The wording of the quest is a little bit misleading. While it tells you that you need to kill Cabal Champions in the Sundial, you have to finish a run in it and beat the last boss, as this is the only enemy in the Sundial itself that counts as a Champion. You can do your run on the normal difficulty, and once you have completed it, you will be able to begin the quest.

Bungie occasionally has issues with clarity in Destiny 2, when it comes to the wording of some quests and Bounties, but once you know where to go and what to do, it doesn't take very long to get the new Devil's Ruin Exotic Sidearm.

Pokémon Go's January 2020 Community Day Will Star PiplupMisael DuranWed, 01/08/2020 - 13:21

PokémonGo has officially announced that January's Community Day event will features the cute and cuddly penguin Pokémon from Gen. IV, Piplup.

We already knew the time and dates of the upcoming Community Day event, as Niantic announced on the Pokémon Go blog a month prior. It was in the previous announcement that the company revealed that the time in which January's Community Day will begin will be determined by which part of the hemisphere you live in. Players in the northern hemisphere will get the event at a different time than those who live in the southern hemisphere. This is a change from the previous Community Day events, and it was apparently done because of feedback from players.

Today, Niantic officially announced that Piplup would be the star for the first Community Day of the new year in Pokémon Go. Piplup is the penguin Pokémon, who served as the water starter in Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum. It can fully evolve into Empoleon, a water and steel-type emperor penguin Pokémon.

It was previously rumored that Piplup was going to be the star of January's Community Day. The other two starters from Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, Turtwig and Chimchar, were already the stars of the September and November Community Day events from last year respectively. With Piplup now getting its own Community Day, all three starters from Gen. IV have now been part of the event.

The Piplup Community Day event launches on Jan. 19. Three hour lures and one-fourth egg hatch distances will be available for participating players. Any Piplup that fully evolves into an Empoleon during the event will learn an exclusive move. However, at this moment, the select move is unknown.

Piplup Community Day event will last from 11am to 2pm in the northern hemisphere, and 3pm to 6pm in the southern hemisphere.

How Character Progression Works for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot

Goku, also known as Kakarot, does not have an easy life in the Dragon Ball Z anime series as he faces off against world-threatening individuals and saves the Earth several times over. You can experience these incredible adventures in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot where you play as the mighty hero and several others. The characters in the game gain experience points for battling enemies and completing quests, among other activities. There's more to do than taking part in the combat.

Leveling Up Through Combat and Quests

In Kakarot, the best way to level up in the game is through combat and completing quests. You gain experience points and use these points to make your characters stronger. Leveling up increases your character's base stats and makes them stronger.

However, there are so many ways to increase your character's talents beyond straightforward combat.

Food Provides Buffs and Boosts Stats

Fans of the series know how much Goku loves to eat food. He wolves down any meal he can place in front of him. Kakarot has an important food mechanic where particular meals provide helpful bonuses to your character's stats and give them buffs. Particular meal options also provide a permanent boost to your character's stats, making them stronger and prepared for harder fights in the future.

You can find chefs in a town, or return to Goku's home to ask his wife, Chichi, to make him a meal. There are several options available and they provide different bonuses based on what you have available.

Unfortunately, you can't ask for something to be made for him. You need ingredients to make these dishes. The rarer, more potent ingredients you pick up during your travels, the more bonuses and stat increases the meal provides your character. You can also discover new recipes through side quests you find in the world.

Learning New Super Attacks

Your character can learn new super moves by going through a handful of steps. The first step is locating special colored "Z" orbs hidden throughout the world. There are Red, Blue, and Green orbs, and supers require different colored orbs to level up and unlock. When you have enough orbs for the ability, you can choose to upgrade it in your skill tree or you can choose to learn another from your list.

However, you need a training partner if you want to learn a new Super Attack or you want to unlock skills with a green icon in their upper right. You need to go to a training ground scattered throughout the game. But you need to find D Medals, which are items hidden throughout Kakarot. If you know you're near a D Medal, you can use the Search for Ki ability to nail down its exact location.

You can start the special training when you have the appropriate amount of Z orbs, a D Medal, and you've arrived at a training grounds. To complete the training, you need to face off against a specific enemy, and this can be other allies, former foes you've already taken down, or a shadow of yourself. You'll receive the ability after you successfully finish the training.

The Community Board

The final bit of progression in Kakarot is called the Community Board. It's full of different communities that provide you passive buffs based on how many Soul Emblems you put into it. You receive Soul Emblems by completing side quests and tasks for characters throughout the game during your journey. These Soul Emblems go to specific boards and you connect them together on the board to increase the community's rank. The more emblems you connect, the more passive skills you unlock to benefit your character during the game.

You can place specific ones next to each other to give them a link bonus. For example, placing Adult Gohan and Goku together on the board increases the community's rank even more than it normally would. You also unlock exclusive dialogue between characters when you do it, too.

There are seven different boards, each with a unique series of passive skills available for your characters. You'll want to find the board that best fits your playstyle to receive the most benefits to how you play the game.

New Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot Video Gives First Look at Character Progression

A new video from Bandai Namco has given us a look at how character progression will work in the upcoming Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot.

The 3-minute video runs through the many ways that we will be able to make Goku and the rest of the gang more powerful. There is a lot more than just fighting, the action-RPG aims to give us an insight into the life of a mighty warrior in the world of Dragon Ball Z

While the game does feature experience points that you earn from fighting, there are other ways to level up. Cooking and eating food will provide both temporary buffs, and permanent stat increases. You can eat at restaurants in towns, or campfires when out in the world.

When you are exploring the world, you can find Z Orbs that will help you acquire Super Attacks. These can be spent to unlock new special attacks and power up your abilities. Other skills can be obtained by training at Training Grounds that are located all over the world.

Finding D-Medals will allow you to engage in mental training, taking on other Z warriors, and even your character. You can also use the Community Boards to get access to new skills. The skills and bonuses you acquire from these Community boards depend on what Soul Emblems you use on them. Soul Emblems are earned by doing side quests and progressing through the main story.

With so many ways to level up your character, a huge story campaign to play through, and plenty of side content, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is shaping up to be a worthy game for fans of the series.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will release on Jan. 16 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Our First Look of Magic: Legends Gameplay With Plenty of Dazzling MagicZack PalmWed, 01/08/2020 - 16:08

Developers Perfect World gives us our first look at the gameplay for their upcoming MMO Action-RPG Magic: Legends down below.

The video was shared and uploaded by Game Informer's YouTube channel.

We see two characters walking together in a limited capacity in the world, meaning when friends play together they may have exclusive instances to embark on their tasks and not compete against other players. While it is an MMO, there's an option for players to go it alone if they choose to do so. The approach seems perfectly viable, but we don't know how this could impact any potential loot or complicate the game. The video did not provide an in-depth look at how quests or boss encounters are going to work.

We do see how abilities work, with characters having four at a time. We don't know how these are going to work, but to prevent everyone from feeling the same, when players level up they may get the chance to exchange these for other abilities. We could see characters having unique builds with multiple approaches to gameplay.

The footage gives us a clean look at Magic: Legends' UI. The enemy's health rests at the top of the screen, with current quests are on the upper left section of the screen, and waypoints hanging on the side of the screen. They point in the direction players need to go making traveling through the world a straightforward task. Overall, with the high-end magical spells going off, Magic: Legends has plenty going on with an orderly UI to keep the action centered.

The game was first hinted at back in 2017 as a free-to-play Magic video game. It wasn't until the 2019 Game Awards did we learn of the name and the nature of the game. Perfect World aim for players to not feel like they're playing the card game, but have entered the world of Magic and are playing the characters inhabiting the franchise

At this time, Magic: Legends is in the beta phase, but the footage was taken during pre-alpha development. Perfect World does not have an official release date, but we can expect it to come to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC sometime in 2020. You can visit the Magic: Legends website to sign up for the upcoming beta.

Steam Adds a New App to Improve Soundtrack FunctionalityAdelaide WeissWed, 01/08/2020 - 16:40

Steam announced new soundtrack updates and functionality in a development update today . Based on user feedback, Steam’s new system moves away from their current model with a new app to host soundtracks.

Music is a key part of a game. Good music inspires and adds to the experience. And if it’s really good, players will want to enjoy it outside of the game. This is where soundtracks come in.

The gaming platform sold soundtracks as DLCs, which created issues for many Steam users, ranging from requiring game purchase to get the soundtrack to forcing players to download the game before the soundtrack.

Steam’s new soundtrack model doesn’t treat music like a DLC add-on anymore. Instead, Steam added a soundtrack app. “Up until now, there was no ‘soundtrack’ app type on Steam," the team said in the post today. "The closest was ‘DLC’, and so it became common to sell soundtracks as a type of DLC.” Steam developers state that while the choice made sense at the time, the soundtracks became bound to "DLC-specific functionality."

According to the announcement, soundtracks can now be purchased without buying the game, downloaded without downloading the game, sold when the game isn’t on Steam, and more.

Steam encourages users to migrate to the new app system instead of the old model. In addition to fixing the issues, Steam added new functionality to the app: multiple quality levels, a new interface, and associated content like album art which can be found in the Steam Library.

Existing content will need to be moved over to the app. Steam hopes to make this as painless as possible and created a tool that will automate the process for users. This tool can be found in the Basic Info tab of the store page.

Steam’s new system is a marked improvement from the limited soundtrack functionality before. Soundtracks will act more like actual soundtracks instead of content linked directly to the base game. While it might be a pain to transfer previously owned soundtracks to the new app, it will be worth it.

EVE Online will host PLEX for GOOD campaign to raise money for victims of the Australia BushfiresAdelaide WeissWed, 01/08/2020 - 16:55

In the wake of devastating fires, EVE Online will host a new campaign event to raise funds for Australia's bushfire victims.

Australia is burning. Fires raging through the country have killed over an estimated one billion animals, at least 26 people, two thousand homes, and burned over 63 thousand square miles since September. The effects are devastating. Industries and other companies are taking notice. EVE Online, a space MMO, announced a new campaign event that will raise funds to help those affected by the fires.

EVE Online posted the news on Twitter. The space MMO plans to conduct a new campaign titled PLEX for GOOD. Funds from the campaign will go to victims of the Australia bushfires. The tweet goes on to credit the EVE community that called for the event.

The announcement didn’t reveal any details. CCP, the parent company for EVE Online, will host the event and more details will be released next week.

EVE Online is a massively multiplayer online spaceship game set in the vast expanse of space. The game is free to play and according to the website, community-driven. EVE Online lets players choose their own path from “countless-options.” It offers over 350 spaceships to fly and choose from, PvP and PvE options, space exploration, in an “ever-expanding” sandbox. Players can choose from various professions and activities that include war, piracy, trading, exploration and more.

The game has thousands of star systems to explore and multiple community events. The thriving servers mixed with the PLEX for GOOD event should help bring some much needed aid to Australia. More details will be revealed next week, but it seems like a promising campaign event for a worthy cause.
